Nature & Wildlife
Nature is all around
The Langdale Valley is a great place for wildlife and for birds in particular. With such varied habitat it is no surprise that it is home to so many birds and animals
The River Brathay holds Kingfishers, Dippers, Grey & Pied Wagtails, Goosander, Mallard and Heron.
Woodpeckers, Redstart, Pied & Spotted Flycatchers, Siskin, Blackcap, Willow Warblers, Reed Bunting, Skylark and Meadow Pipits all frequent the woodlands and fields.
As you get onto higher ground Stonechats, Wheatear and Rock Pipits are regularly sighted.
In addition to all the normal garden birds (Blackbird, Bullfinch, Chaffinch, Robin, Wren, Song Thrush, Blue, Great and Coal tits) many other species turn up from time to time in the Fir Garth grounds and communal garden.

Wildlife at the Window
You don't even need to leave the sofa...
Fill the bird feeders and flocks of small birds will swoop down right in front of the window.
All the regular garden birds can be seen from the cottage window plus some less common visitors such as Nutchatch, Bullfinch and Yellowhammer.
Buzzards can be seen soaring over the cottage, and the Woodpecker frequently visits if there are nuts in the feeders.
At night you may hear the call of Tawny Owls close by.
